Shahr film festival to honor Jamshid Mashayekhi

The 7th edition of the Shahr (Urban) International Film Festival in Tehran has set to pay tribute to the late actor Jamshid Mashayekhi.

Secretary of the event Hashem Mirzakhani said the tribute will be paid in presence of the late artist’s family during the opening ceremony of the festival.

Born in 1934, Mashayekhi who left his studies in Theater unfinished is a late Iranian actor. He was hired by the newly established Dramatic Arts Center in 1957.

In 1963, he played a role in the short movie 'Snake Cover', directed by Hajir Daryoush. He officially began his acting career in 1970.

Mashayekhi's debut movie ‘Brick and Mirror’ in 1965 did not keep him away from being involved in theater as he kept playing roles on stage for years and remained faithful to the fine art.

He has been honored with the First Grade Order of Art and Culture. His roles in historical TV series such as ‘Kamal-ol-Molk’ and ‘Hezar Dastan’ exhibit his acting ability.

He appeared in numerous movies, including ‘The Cow’, ‘Chrysanthemums’, ‘The Fateful Day’, ‘Don't Call Me a Clunker!’, ‘Thirteen 59 (1980)’ and ‘Cheque’.

Mashayekhi also took part in several TV series such as ‘It's All There’, ‘Imam Ali (AS)’, ‘Era of Constitutional Revolution’, ‘The Cherry Garden’, ‘Mother’, ‘Tabriz in Fog’, ‘The Chef’, ‘The Doormat’, ‘Lighter than Darkness’, and ‘Setayesh’.

He died on April 2, 2019 at the age of 85.

The Shahr International Film Festival is Iran's most important cinematic event related to urban management in promotion of appropriate urban and industrial life patterns.

It is organized annually by the Urban Image Institute, the Artistic and Cultural Organization of Tehran Municipality.

The Shahr Film Festival aims to identify creative and innovative cinematic works of urban life and create a platform for exchanging ideas and experiences among world cities.

Films that use an eloquent artistic vision to promote a blissful human life will be considered for the competition section, according to the festival's website.

The 7th Shahr International Film Festival is slated for July 17-22, 2019, in Tehran.
