Iranian short ‘I Am Zal’ is to compete at a film festival in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

The 11th International Inter-University Short Film Festival (IIUSFF) has selected Iran’s ‘I Am Zal’ to compete in Dhaka.

The short film tells the story of Daniel, a young boy with albinism disorder. He is to play the role of an Iranian mythological figure, Zal, on stage in a school play.

But Daniel’s mother, who is against his going on stage, punishes him. When Daniel’s teachers become aware of his punishment, they decide to stand against his mother.

The short has previously been selected to go on screen at different events, including the 2019 Kadoma International Film Festival in Japan, the 14th Marbella International Film Festival in Spain, the 2019 CEFALU Film Festival in Italy, and the International Oriental Film Festival of Geneva in Switzerland.

The IIUSFF provides a platform for young filmmakers who are university students in Bangladesh and other parts of the world. They are given an opportunity to present their creative works.

This edition of the IIUSFF is slated for July 29-31, 2019.
