The maker behind diverse films and series Abolhassan Davoudi has shared some of his concerns as a filmmaker to ifilm camera.
As filmmakers have struggled to achieve a balance between engaging audiences with real-world problems while striving to also still entertain, Davoudi is a director who uses films to speak on social issues while making himself close to new generation.
With a concern for tackling the new generation, Davoudi believes that a director should have a pioneering role, “I no longer make films for making ends meet….I must have a real reason for directing a film.”
Pointing to the generation gap and how it needs to be filled through the medium of films, ‘Barani’ and 'Mankind's Land' director mentions that the young people are confronted with a vast ocean of information and it is impossible to use censorship as a means to have their minds under control.
Remembering his old days, he said that although his personal ethical standards have not changed since 30 years ago, the ethical standards and the norms of the society have; so if he wants to continue as an influential filmmaker, he needs to come closer to the mindset of the new generation in order to leave an influence.
As a conclusion to his interview, Davoudi has also referred to his belief in how a filmmaker can sometimes appear as a social reformer.
