The Iranian documentary film ‘Lotus’ has been screened at the 2019 Gimli Film Festival (GFF) in Canada.

Directed by Mohammad-Reza Vatandoust, the documentary narrates the story of an old woman who has been waiting for 12 years to get permission to enter an island and meet its only resident.

The 19th edition of the GFF began from July 24 and the Iranian doc was screened on July 27 in the Lady of the Lake Theatre.

The fest hosts award-winning works from around the world and presents more than 11000 dollars to winners.

At the GFF, ‘Lotus’ competed against movies from the US, Canada, Mexico, Sweden, France, Denmark, Switzerland and Netherland.

The Iranian doc has previously bagged awards at the 16th Big Sky Documentary Film Festival in the US and the 18th Beirut International Film Festival in Lebanon.

Over the last eighteen years, the GFF has presented a selection of feature films and documentaries from around the world. It also holds workshops and Q & As with filmmakers.

The GFF was slated for July 24-28, 2019.
