Afkhami’s series to launch this fall

Production for Behrouz Afkhami’s latest series is set to begin this fall.

Latest series ‘Thunder and Lightning’ by Iranian filmmaker Behrouz Afkhami is to launch production this fall.

In a recent media report, Afkhami disclosed that he is currently working on the screenplay for the 25-part series, with production set to begin this fall.

The director’s latest project is an adventurous reenactment of the recent Iranian flashfloods of early 2019 with a comedic tone.

Shooting locations for ‘Thunder and Lightning’ will include many of the cities affected by the floods, most of which were in Iran’s Golestan, Lorestan, and Khouzestan provinces.

According to Afkhami, the film will feature between 10-15 main characters and over 100 secondary characters.

So far, ‘The Window’ star Abdorreza Akbari and ‘Cyanide’ star Atila Pesyani who are among the main characters, have placed their commitments in joining the cast.

In addition to ‘Thunder and Lightning’, the veteran filmmaker who has been away from the filmmaking scene for nearly five years will also be working on a new feature film titled ‘Checkered Paper’.

The police flick, based on true stories from a legal prosecutor’s memoirs, will feature unknown actors and will begin filming in ten days.

According to the filmmaker, due to the violent nature of the film, ‘Checkered Paper’ will be a feature film and not a television series.

Afkhami began his career as a documentary maker for television before collaborating with Seifollah Daad in 1986 as a cinematographer in ‘Under the Rain’.

He made his directorial debut in television with ‘Jungle Commander’ in 1987 and later directed the blockbuster hit ‘The Bride’ in 1990.

The renowned filmmaker’s resume includes other hits such as ‘Day of the Angel’ , ‘Devil's Day’, ‘Hemlock’, ‘Morning’s Child’, ‘St. Petersburg’, 'The Bride', 'Mirza Koochack Khan', 'Operation 125', and 'The Fox'.
