Iranian ‘Slaughter’ to compete at Iraq fest

Iranian short ‘Slaughter’ is to compete at Iraq Duhok International Film Festival.

Iran’s short film ‘Slaughter’ has been scheduled to go on screen at Duhok International Film Festival in Iraq.

Co-directed by Saman Hosseinpour and Ako Zand-Karimi, the short narrates the story of a family in a village in Iran. Facing a tough winter, father of the family, Qasem, decides to sell their only cow. The son who is emotionally attached to the cow lets it loose to stop the slaughter.

The short has been awarded at several international festivals including "The Unprecedented Cinema" International Festival of Short Film in Estonia and the 2nd Fredonia Film Festival in the US.

It has also been screened at a number of festivals such as the 2019 East Northeast International Film Festival in the US, the Golden Apricot Yerevan International Film Festival in Armenia, and the FOKUS film festival in Denmark.

The Duhok IFF website reads “the fest aims to showcase innovative films of high artistic valueIt also wishes to create an atmosphere of exchange between different cultures and human values”.

The 7th edition of the Duhok fest is slated for September 9-16, 2019.
