Cinema Museum of Iran hosts a commemoration ceremony for Oscar-winning filmmaker Asghar Farhadi.

Cinema Museum of Iran has hosted a commemoration ceremony for the Oscar-winning filmmaker Asghar Farhadi.

The museum commemorated Farhadi on Friday for his recent accomplishments with ‘The Salesman’ at the Academy Awards and Cannes among the others.

Going on the stage at the ceremony, Farhadi said he has accidentally decided to make ‘The Salesman’ and he will leave Iran to start making his new film abroad.

‘The Salesman’ won the award for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 89th edition of the Academy Awards last week.

This is the second time that Asghar Farhadi won an Oscar. In 2012, he became the first Iranian to win the prestigious award for his film ‘A Separation’, which also won the Best Foreign Language award.

‘The Salesman’ tells the story of a young couple named Emad (Shahab Hosseini) and Rana (Taraneh Alidoosti) who move into a new flat in the center of Tehran. But an incident linked to the previous tenant dramatically changes their life.

Farhadi, born in 1972, is an Iranian film director and screenwriter. Among other awards, he has received a Golden Globe Award as well as two Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film in 2012 and 2017.

He was named one of the 100 Most Influential People in the world by Time magazine in 2012.
