Dresden children’s filmfest to showcase Iran’s ‘Bibi’

Iranian director Saeid Nejati’s short film ‘Bibi’ has been selected to screen at the 29th Dresden International Short Film Festival in Germany.

The Iranian short will screen in the Children and Youth section of the Dresden short film festival, which will be held in the German city early next month.

‘Bibi’ tells the story of a group of teenage boys who want to help send their friend’s grandmother to Iraq for the Arbaeen mourning ritual.

Arbaeen is a Muslim religious observance that commemorates the martyrdom of Shia Islam’s 3rd Imam Hussein (AS), who is also the grandson of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). Arbaeen is one of the largest pilgrimage gatherings on Earth, in which up to 38 million people go to the city of Karbala in Iraq.

The 29th edition of the Dresden International Short Film Festival will be held in the German city from April 4-9.

The film festival was founded in 1989 and focuses on short film in all its facets, going on to become one of the most important festivals of its kind throughout Germany.

The Dresden film festival is also one of the most popular and best endowed short film festivals in Europe with prizes and awards worth more than €60,000. The festival has around 20,000 visitors annually, including up to 500 national and international media professionals.
