Iranian short film ‘Are You Volleyball?!’ is to vie at Sharjah film fest in UAE.

Directed by Mohammad Bakhshi, the short film ‘Are You Volleyball?!’ has been selected to compete at the 7th edition of the Sharjah International Film Festival for Children & Youth (SIFF) in the UAE.

The film narrates the story of a group of Arabic-speaking asylum seekers who try to make their way to the border in an English speaking country.

They get into a conflict with border guards every day up until a deaf-mute child becomes a catalyst for better communication between the two sides.

The 15-minute film has so far won awards such as Best Film Prize from the Al-Nahj Film Festival in Iraq, Best Film and Best Screenplay awards at the Short Film Competition section at the US Forum on Law, Culture & Society, Best Film at the BCN Sports Film Festival in Spain, and Best Editor award at the Bucharest ShortCut Cinefest in Romania.

The SIFF was launched in 2013. It is the first children & youth film festival in the UAE, dedicated to enhance the media literacy of children and youth, foster children’s & youth’s creativity and showcase the very best in filmmaking for, by and about children and young people.

The 7th SIFF is slated for October 13-18, 2019 in the UAE.
