UN office in Geneva opens Iranian art exhibition

The 34th session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva, Switzerland, has opened an exhibition of artworks by Iranian artists.

Being held on the sidelines of the session, the artworks have been selected from among works created by artists who have taken part in four editions of the Art for Peace Festival previously held in Iran.

The show that will run until March 24 at the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) displays works by Majid Abparvar, Farzad Adibi, Ebrahim Haqiqi, Mahshid Karimi, Ali Zaiem, Amin Salimi, and Hamedeh Mashiyati among the others.

The arts of Iran are one of the richest art heritages in world history and encompass many traditional disciplines including architecture, painting, literature, music, weaving, pottery, calligraphy, metalworking and stonemasonry.

There is also a very effervescent Iranian modern and contemporary art scene, as well as cinema and photography.

The OHCHR is a United Nations agency that works to promote and protect the human rights that are guaranteed under international law and stipulated in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights of 1948.

The office was established by the UN General Assembly on 20 December 1993 in the wake of the 1993 World Conference on Human Rights.
