Tehran’s Golestan Palace to host Nowruz international celebration

Golestan Palace has been scheduled to host Nowruz international celebration in Tehran.

Hossein Makarem, an official affiliated to Tehran Municipality, said the celebration will be held on March 26 (the 6th day of Persian New Year) in the presence of Iran’s vice president.

He also noted that Nowruz, as a cultural heritage, is the oldest celebration in the world history that is still being held.

“Last year we had the celebration in 12 provinces, but this year we are going to hold it all across the country,” Makarem added.

“Starting this year, the Nowruz slogan will be ‘Nowruz, Peace Heritage’ for the next ten years,” the official said.

Representatives of 12 countries that celebrate Nowruz at the beginning of spring are set to attend the celebration in Tehran’s Golestan Palace.

The Golestan Palace, meaning the palace of flowers in Persian, is a masterpiece of the Qajar era (1794-1924) located in Iran's capital city, Tehran.

One of the oldest historic monuments in Tehran and registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the palace belongs to a group of royal buildings that were once enclosed within the mud-thatched walls of a citadel in Tehran. It consists of gardens, royal buildings, and collections of Iranian crafts and European presents from the 18th and 19th centuries.

Along with Iranians, millions of others in countries such as Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Tajikistan and Turkey also celebrate Nowruz.
