The 2019 edition of the Didor International Documentary Film Festival in Tajikistan has awarded Iranian documentary ‘Waterfolks’.
Directed by Azadeh Bizargiti, the Iranian title received the award for “Best Reflection of National Heritage” at the Tajik event.
Following the everyday life of a fisherwoman in the Persian Gulf, ‘Waterfolks’ is a poetic narration about a woman living and working on Hengam Island in Hormozgan province, south of Iran.
The documentary has gone on screen at a number of global events, including the 22nd Annual Maine International Film Festival, the 2019 Sebastopol Documentary Film Festival and the 8th American Documentary Film Festival, all in the US, as well as the 2018 Iran Documentary Independent Award.
A production of IRIB’s documentary channel, Bizargiti’s work has attended the 12th Cinema Verite (Iran’s major international documentary film festival) where it grabbed the Diploma for Best Director of Short Documentary.
The Didor International Film Festival is a bi-annual film festival in Dushanbe, Tajikistan.
Originally conceived as a Persian movie festival, it has now expanded its scope to take in Russian and European movies.
The jury members of the Didor 2019 included Gulnara Abikeeva from Kazakhstan, Alireza Shahrouhi from Iran, and Georgiy Dzalaev from Tajikistan.
The 2019 International Didor Documentary Film Festival was held on October 16-20 in Tajikistan.
