Iran's cinemas are to screen Afghanistan’s Oscar submission ‘Hava, Maryam, Ayesha’.

Iranian movie theaters have set to screen Afghanistan’s submission for the 2020 Academy Awards ceremony ‘Hava, Maryam, Ayesha’.

The film’s Afghan director Sahraa Karimi said ‘Hava, Maryam, Ayesha’ received the screening permit and will be featured in Iran.

Iran’s Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance has yet to confirm the news.

Karimi also noted that the film will be screened in the US state of California, China, Turkey and Slovakia soon.

“I am happy the film will be screened in other countries’ movie theaters, besides its participation at festivals,” she added.

‘Hava, Maryam, Ayesha’ is produced by Iranian producer Katayoun Shahabi and its post-production stage took place in Iran.

The movie narrates the story of “three Afghan women from different social backgrounds, living in Kabul, who are facing a big challenge in their lives”, according to a synopsis for the film.

Hollywood's actress Angelina Jolie has championed Karimi’s debut film.
