Tehran is hosting the 49th Roshd International Film Festival.

Tehran has been hosting the 49th edition of the Roshd International Film Festival since Friday.

Opened by Hamid-Reza Qotbi’s feature ‘That Night's Train’, the 2019 Roshd is hosting more than 140 films from Iran and across the world in Tehran’s Felestin movie theater.

According to a press release, 85 Iranian films and 57 films from 25 countries have been selected to compete at the festival’s 2019 edition.

The festival’s director Vahid Golestan pointed out that the films were selected from a pool of more than 2600 submitted films during the selection process.

The films, including animations, documentaries, short films, feature films, and films created by student filmmakers and instructors, are competing in various categories at the event.

Among the contestants in this year’s festival are ‘The Final Journey’ representing Uzbekistan, ‘400 MPH’ representing France in the Animations section, ‘How Blue is Your Ocean?’ representing the US, ‘What is Consciousness?’ representing the UK in the Scientific and Educational Documentaries section, ‘Capitán Kinesis’ representing Spain, and ‘Surprise Me!’ representing Austria in the Short Fiction Films section.

Founded in 1963, the Roshd International Film Festival is Iran’s first and longest standing global film event.

The festival’s main goal is to exchange educational films globally with the main theme being science, education, and ethics.

The 49th Roshd has been slated for November 15-22, to be followed by screenings in other provinces on November 23-May 8.
