This year’s message is written by Isabelle Huppert, the theatre and cinema actress from France.

Since 1962 World Theater Day has been celebrated on March 27 by many artistic bodies and famous personalities in the world of theater and cinema

"This day is a celebration for those who can see the value and importance of the art form theater and a wake-up-call for those which have not yet recognized its value," Uppert wrote in her message, adding," Theater is for me ... is the absence of hatred."

Recalling a stage director she worked for, the actress noted that before the stage curtain was drawn up "[he] would yell, with full-throated firmness, ‘Make way for theatre!’"

Isabelle Huppert is considered one of the best French actresses. She has relentlessly been involved in film and theatre, winning the acclaim of critics and audiences alike. Huppert is the most nominated actress with 7 nominations for the prestigious Molière Award recognizing achievement in live French theater.
