Iran’s ‘Driving Lessons’ qualifies for Oscars 2020

Iran’s ‘Driving Lessons’ is qualified for the Oscars 2020.

Directed by Marzieh Riahi, Iranian short ‘Driving Lessons’ has been qualified for the short film category of the Oscars 2020.

Based on Academy Awards’ rules, one of the ways for short films in order to be qualified to compete at the event, is to be screened in Los Angeles’ cinemas.

The short was screened in the Arena Cinelounge Sunset cinema (located in Los Angeles) on September 20-26.

Written by Marjan Riahi, the film’s cast is made up of actors Linda Kiani, Alireza Sanifar, Salar Khamseh, and Sanaz Mesbah.

“Bahareh must have her traditional chauvinistic husband accompany her during driving lessons so that she and her instructor are not left together without a third party’s presence,” a synopsis for the film reads.

The short has previously competed at the Tampere Film Festival in Finland, the Cartagena Film Festival in Colombia, the Tribeca Film Festival in the US, and the Edmonton International Film Festival in Canada.

Nominations for the 92nd annual Academy Awards will be announced on Monday, January 13, 2020.

The awards of the Academy will be presented to the winners on February 9, 2020.
