Australia screening Iranian ‘Astigmatism’

Iranian feature ‘Astigmatism’ has been participating at the 2019 edition of the Persian Film Festival in Australia.

Directed by Majid-Reza Mostafavi and co-written by Payam Karami as well as Mostafavi, ‘Astigmatism’ is a social drama.

The movie narrates the story of a couple, Ensi and Zabin, living in the suburbs of Tehran and expecting a baby; however, the destiny is not as they could predict.

“A man returns to his family after a few years of separation in order to claim back his house. His son, who farms leeches on the property, tries to reconcile his parents to stay together. Meanwhile, the 9- year-old grandson falls in love with his teacher, causing problem for himself and the school,” the festival’s website wrote on the movie’s plot.

Notable among the movie's cast are Hossein Pakdel, Siamak Safari, Hessam Mohammadi, Niki Karimi, and Behnoush Bakhtiyari.

The movie has taken part at some global events such as the 36th Fajr International Film Festival in Iran, the 12th Asia Pacific Screen Awards (APSA) in Australia, the 7th Asian Film Festival Barcelona in Spain, and the 19th Yari Iranian Film Festival in Sweden.

The Persian Film Festival 2019 is also screening ‘Orange Days’ by Arash Lahouti, ‘Suddenly a Tree’ by Safi Yazdanian, ‘African Violet’ by Mona Zandi-Haqiqi, ‘Beloved’ by Yasser Talebi, ‘Oath’ by Mohsen Tanabandeh, ‘Seven and a Half’ by Navid Mahmoudi, ‘Reza’ by Alireza Motamedi, ‘The Dark Room’ by Rouhollah Hejazi, and ‘Finding Farideh’ co-directed by Azadeh Mousavi and Kourosh Ataee.

Slated for December 4-8, the 2019 edition of the Persian Film Festival in Australia is now underway.
