Best 2019 Iranian films in review

ifilm website has reviewed some of the Iranian cinematic productions that bagged the highest honors in 2019.

The article introduces a number of short and feature films that gained the most international and national recognitions. It also goes over the highest grossing movie of the year.

Iranian animation ‘The Last Fiction’ directed by Ashkan Rahgozar goes on top of the list as it has recently been qualified as one of the 34 films to compete for the Best Picture category at the 92nd Academy Awards.

Reza Mirkarimi’s ‘Castle of Dreams’ is another Iranian title that has attended various film events and won countless number of awards, including the Golden Punt award at the 39th Cambridge Film Festival in UK and the best film award at the International Film Award “East-West. Golden Arch” in Russia.

Also on the list is Saeed Roustaee’s ‘Just 6.5’ (6.5 per Meter) which is an internationally recognized feature. The film has attended several film events and bagged various awards such as the Jury Special mention at the 15th Zurich Film Festival in Switzerland.

Narrating the story of a teenage girl who wants to gain her parents love and attention by any means, ‘Dressage’ is the next title that has been on a winning streak at international events. The Rabat International Festival of Film in Morocco, for example, is one such international event that honored the film with Best Actress Award as well as Best Screenplay Award.

‘The Dark Room’ is another feature-length movie which grabbed international attentions towards itself. Among many awards, the iconoclastic story won the Best Film Award at the International Film Festival of Kerala in India.  

Kaveh Mazaheri’s short film ‘Retouch’ has also been so captivating and influential that so many film festivals around the world have screened and applauded it.
