38th Fajr Intl. Film Festival postponed over COVID-19

The outbreak of the coronavirus in Iran postpones the 38th Fajr Int'l Film Festival.

The outbreak of the coronavirus in Iran has postponed the 38th edition of Fajr International Film Festival (FIFF).

The head of media and public relations of the FIFF, Keyvan Kasirian, announced on Wednesday that the cinematic event has been postponed due to the outbreak of coronavirus, known as COVID-19.

The 38th edition of Fajr Int’l Festival was scheduled to be held on April 16-24. However, the organizers have decided to delay it to a period between June 5 and 20, 2020.

“The decision has been made following the worldwide breakout of coronavirus and the unclear perspective of any improvement in the situation during a short period of time,” Kasirian noted.

He said the organizers of the event have also consulted with the International Federation of Film Producers Associations (FIAPF) before deciding to delay the festival in order to hold it more decently in late spring.

“The directors of the festival are hoping for a decrease in coronavirus spread and ultimately, the disappearance of the virus in the world,” he added.

Kasirian also mentioned that “further information in this regard will be announced in the future.”

Since 2015, the Fajr Film Festival has been held in two separate national and international categories. The COVID-19 has so far infected more than 80,000 people around the world.

The outbreak has had a major impact on global sporting, cultural, religious and political events, with a host of events being canceled or postponed.
