Beirut filmfest to show Iranian-Australian ‘Passage’

Iranian-Australian short ‘Passage’ is to attend the Beirut Int’l Women’s Film Festival in Lebanon.

Iranian-Australian short ‘Passage’ has been scheduled to go on screen at the 2020 edition of the Beirut International Women’s Film Festival (BWFF) in Lebanon.

Directed by Kimia Hendi, the 15-minute title tells the story of Shirin who gains a different perspective on loss after losing her father.

‘Passage’ received the Mountain Goat Award for Emerging Australian Filmmaker at the Melbourne International Film Festival (MIFF) in 2019.

The MIFF jury stated, “In 'Passage', Kimia Hendi shows she has a keen eye for filmmaking, a strong sense of story and exceptional visual direction. Passage gives us a distinct perspective on grief and loss. Hendi illustrates through her command over the craft that she has a unique and focused female voice and promises to be a very exciting up-and-coming ... filmmaker.”

This year's edition of the BWFF will be held under the theme of ‘Women for Leadership’. According to the festival’s official website, the theme has been set to highlight “the role of women as leaders in their societies”.

The 3rd BWFF is slated for March 8-13, 2020.
