Iconic Cannes venue hosts homeless amid COVID-19 outbreak

Palais des Festivals in Cannes provides shelter to homeless amid coronavirus concerns.

Palais des Festivals in Cannes has provided shelter for the homeless as the outbreak of coronavirus (COVID-19) restricts movements in France.

Almost one week ago, France president Emanuel Macron asked people to stay at home to protect themselves against COVID-19.

The measure is being implemented, but the 12,000 homeless in France have no home to stay at.

Taking a step to tackle the issue, Palais des Festivals in Cannes opened the doors to the homeless.

Officials in Cannes provided 82 beds, meals, showers as well as books, games and television for the homeless.

The 2020 Cannes Film Festival has been postponed due to coronavirus outbreak and it’s not clear when it will be held.

The event was set to run on May 12-23, but organizers said in a statement on Thursday that could not happen.
