IMDb names Iranian filmmaker Rakhshan Banietemad among pioneering women directors in cinema history.

An online database of information related to films has named Iranian filmmaker Rakhshan Banietemad as one of pioneering women directors in cinema history.

In a video titled “A Salute to Women Directors”, IMDb -- the most popular source for movie, TV and celebrity content in the world – celebrated the pioneering women directors and their groundbreaking work.

Banietemad’s ‘Tales’ was selected among the movies that were reviewed in the footage that also included ‘Unbroken’ by Angelina Jolie, ‘Selma’ by Ava Duvernay and other films made since 1896.

‘Tales’ brought the 65-year-old director the Special Jury Prize at the Asia Pacific Screen Awards (APSA) in Australia.

The film was named the Best Film at the Kolkata International Film Festival in India. It also grabbed the Best Screenplay award at the 71st Venice International Film Festival in Italy.

“A series of seven vignettes about different people dealing with their everyday problems, that are loosely related to each other,” a synopsis for the film reads.

‘Tales’ is starring Mohammad-Reza Foroutan, Peyman Maadi, Mehdi Hashemi and Fatemeh Motamed-Arya, among others.
