Canadian Hot Docs honors Iranian doc ‘Eyes and Hands’

The Hot Docs in Canada honors Iranian documentary ‘Eyes and Hands’.

The Hot Docs, Canada’s prominent international documentary festival, has honored Iranian documentary ‘Eyes and Hands’.

Directed by Panahbarkhoda Rezaee, the documentary received an Honorable Mention award at the 2020 edition of the Canadian event.

‘Eyes and Hands’ received the Honorable Mention in the Best Mid-Length Documentary category of the Hot Docs.

“This tender portrait of a marriage captures the delicate choreography of an intimate partnership – this loving couple with disabilities are the players and their humble home in Iran is the stage,” the jury of the festival stated presenting the award to the Iranian title.

The documentary narrates the story of an impoverished middle-aged couple, Maryam and Mohammad, who live in isolation in an Iranian rural region.

After losing both her forearms and one foot in a train accident, Maryam went against her parents’ will and eloped with her blind suitor.

Since then, they’ve happily cared for each other, with Maryam acting as her husband’s eyes and Mohammad acting as his wife’s arms.

The Hot Docs is recognized as a qualifying festival for the Academy Awards in the Documentary Feature and Documentary Short Subject categories.

The 2020 edition of the event will start streaming online on May 28.
