YouTube removes Michael Moore’s film on renewable energy

Michael Moore’ controversial doc ‘Planet of the Humans’ has been removed from YouTube.

Michael Moore and Jeff Gibbs’ controversial documentary ‘Planet of the Humans’ has been removed from YouTube.

The film, which was released on YouTube on April 21, and has seen 8.3 million views since its launch, was taken down from YouTube after a copyright claim was lodged against the doc over four seconds of footage it contains.

Following the removal of the film, writer-director Gibbs called this decision a “blatant act of censorship”, saying, “This attempt to take down our film and prevent the public from seeing it is a blatant act of censorship by political critics of Planet of the Humans.”

“It is a misuse of copyright law to shutdown a film that has opened a serious conversation about how parts of the environmental movement have gotten into bed with Wall Street and so-called ‘green capitalists’,” he also added.

“There is absolutely no copyright violation in my film. This is just another attempt by the film’s opponents to subvert the right to free speech.”

‘Planet of the Humans’ suggests electric cars and solar energy are unreliable, relying on fossil fuels. The film also criticizes Al Gore for helping corporations to test “ineffective technologies over real solutions”.

The producers subsequently announced that ‘Planet of the Humans’ will now stream for free on Vimeo.
