Through a rough report, ifilm English website has put together a list of the actors who have had the privilege of playing the role of the late leader and founder of the Islamic Revolution in Iran on either the big or small screen; a role that lead to mixed (and sometimes controversial) results.
….
‘Solace of the Heart’ star Abdolreza Akbari was selected to land in the epic role covering Imam Khomeini in his middle age in the aptly-titled film ‘The Son of the Dawn’.
The 2004 biographical drama starring Akbari got its festival debut at the 29th Fajr Film Festival in Iran. However, after 16 years, the flick has not been released yet and the team is still awaiting the proper screening time.
Akbari had also the chance to get picked for the second time to portray Imam Khomeini in a telefilm named '11 Minutes & 30 Seconds’ by Beherouz Afkhami. The 2008 production attended the video competition section of the 27th Fajr International Film Festival and attracted the attention of film critics.
In fact, Akbari is the only actor who has succeeded to take in the role of Imam Khomeini twice so far and has the closest makeup to Imam’s real face.
Jamshid Hashempour has been also one of the actors who underwent a makeup test for the role of Imam Khomeini (RA) in the epic narrative ‘The Son of the Dawn’. Although he did not take the role, he seemed like a good mach.
Among all the makeup tests done to portray Imam, the one which was carried out on Shokr-Khoda Goudarzi in ‘The Enigma of the Shah’ - aired by ifilm English, is probably the most similar one to the character.
‘The Eventful Years’ was also a mini-TV series made about the life of Imam Khomeini (RA). Mohammad Azadi was the one depicting the role.
Imam Khomeini was the founder of Islamic Republic of Iran and the leader of the country’s Islamic Revolution in 1979 that saw the overthrow of Mohammad-Reza Pahlavi, the last Shah of the country.
