Iranian short ‘Serok’ to vie in Brazil

The Florianópolis Children’s Film Festival in Brazil is to host Iranian short ‘Serok’.

Iranian short title ‘Serok’ has been selected to compete at the next edition of the Florianópolis Children’s Film Festival in Brazil.

Directed by Zhivar Farajzadeh, the 5-minute flick follows a day in the life of Serok, a young boy, forced to stand in as the shepherd for his father's flock during the summer.

“No matter where we live or what we do, financial struggles usually impact the children most - education suffers; dreams take a back seat. We hope that, at least, Serok gets the opportunity to become a policeman and drive his car. Only time will tell,” a brief plot to the film reads.

Some of the international film festivals attended by ‘Serok’ include the 5th CinéStudent International Film Festival in France, the Inshort Film Festival in the UK, the 3rd annual Philadelphia Environmental Film Festival in the US, the International Children’s Rights Film Festival in Turkey, the Covellite International Film Festival in the US, the Busan International Kids and Youth Film Festival in South Korea, the Cefalù Film Festival in Italy, the 4th Realtime International Film Festival in Nigeria, and the Golden Bull Film Festival in Turkey.

‘Serok’ is also the winner of Special Jury Prize at the 2nd Sulaimaniyah Children’s Film Festival in Iraq.

The Florianópolis festival is one of the most important film events in Brazil.

It exhibits films from Brazil and other countries.

The festival encourages both children and adolescent films.

The latest edition of the festival that has been scheduled for June 2020, is postponed to the next spring due to coronavirus outbreak.
