‘Yalda’ releases post-corona screening trailer

‘Yalda’ (A Night for Forgiveness) has released a new trailer for post-corona public screening in Iran.

The movie has been scheduled to be one of the movies to hit Iranian silver screens following the home period due to COVID-19.

Directed by Masoud Bakhshi and produced by Ali Mosaffa, ‘Yalda’ is a joint production of Iran, Switzerland, Germany, Lebanon and Luxembourg. 

‘Yalda’ tells the story of Maryam Komijani, a young woman who has been sentenced to death for the murder of her husband.

On Yalda Night, an ancient cultural festive marking the longest night of the year, she has been brought to a studio to be forgiven by the victim’s only daughter, Mona Ziya, during a live TV program.

But several incidents during the show and behind-the-scenes of the TV program get the two young women into a challenging situation to take a decision.

Behnaz Jafari, Faqiheh Soltani, Fereshteh Sadr-Orafaee, Bahram Afshar, Fereshteh Hosseini and Babak Karimi are among the cast members of the flick.

The film has so far taken part at some global events, including the PyeongChang International Peace Film Festival in South Korea, the Luxembourg City Film Festival, the Sofia International Film Festival in Bulgaria, the 15th Panorama of Maghreb and Middle Eastern Cinemas in France, the 18th International Film Festival and Forum on Human Rights in Switzerland, the 70th Berlin International Film Festival in Germany, the Iranian Film Festival of Zurich in Switzerland, and the 2020 Sundance Film Festival in the US where it won the Grand Jury Award.

Iran’s movie theaters have resumed activities with observing the health protocols and under the condition that just 50 percent of seats would be taken by the audiences.

Using face masks and gloves, broadcasting coronavirus-related trailers prior to screening the movies and performances, considering seat separation policy and preparing liquid soap and sterilizers are among the health protocols.

Also using thermometers to identify the infected people and prevent them from entering the halls is required.

The entire art and cultural activities, including public screenings in movie theaters, were halted across Iran since this February due to the coronavirus pandemic.
