Still Voices to take ‘Song Sparrow’ to Ireland

The Still Voices Short Film Festival in Ireland is to feature ‘Song Sparrow’.

The Still Voices Short Film Festival (SVSFF) in Ireland has selected Iranian-Danish animation ‘Song Sparrow’ for its competition lineup.

Written, directed and produced by Farzaneh Omidvarnia, the award-winning and internationally recognized short animation on immigration will take part at the 4th edition of the Irish event.

‘Song Sparrow’ which has been made using stop motion technique has some handmade puppets as its featuring characters.

The film narrates the story of a group of refugees who try to reach a safe country in search for a better life.

To do so, they pay a smuggler to drive them across the boarders in a fridge truck.

However, the freezing temperature of the truck turns their hopes for a better future into a fierce struggle for survival.

The international awards that the short animation has so far acquired include best short animation at the Giffoni Film Festival in Italy, special mention at the Cortile International Short Film Festival in Italy, best animated film at the Festival Internazionale del Cortometraggio in France, and special mention at the MyArt Film Festival in Italy.

Two other Iranian short titles, namely ‘Funfair’ by Kaveh Mazaheri and ‘Exam’ by Sonia Haddad, will also attend this year’s edition of the Still Voices.

Launched in 2014, the SVSFF started off as an event to accept films from local directors.

It then grew to become a venue for international works.

It currently is among the biggest short film fests in Ireland.

The upcoming edition of the SVSFF will take place on August 13-16, 2020 in Ballymahon.
