ifilm exclusive on Iranian feature ‘Yalda’

ifilm English TV has published an exclusive report on Iranian feature ‘Yalda’ (A Night for Forgiveness) written and directed by Masoud Bakhshi.

ifilm has interviewed the scriptwriter/director, actor Babak Karimi, actress Behnaz Jafari, film critic Kamal Pourkaveh, and some cinemagoers.

Produced by Ali Mosaffa, ‘Yalda’ is a joint production of Iran, Switzerland, Germany, Lebanon and Luxembourg.

The movie tells the story of Maryam Komijani, a young woman who has been sentenced to death for the murder of her husband.

On Yalda Night, an ancient cultural festive marking the longest night of the year, she has been brought to a studio to be forgiven by the victim’s only daughter, Mona Ziya, during a live TV program.

But several incidents during the show and behind-the-scenes of the TV program get the two young women into a challenging situation to take a decision.

In addition to Jafari and Karimi, Faqiheh Soltani, Fereshteh Sadr-Orafaee, Bahram Afshar, and Fereshteh Hosseini are among the cast members of the flick.

The film has so far taken part at some global events, including the PyeongChang International Peace Film Festival in South Korea, the Luxembourg City Film Festival, the Sofia International Film Festival in Bulgaria, the 15th Panorama of Maghreb and Middle Eastern Cinemas in France, the 18th International Film Festival and Forum on Human Rights in Switzerland, the 70th Berlin International Film Festival in Germany, the Iranian Film Festival of Zurich in Switzerland, and the 2020 Sundance Film Festival in the US where it won the Grand Jury Award.

Most recently, the movie received the Special Mention for best screenplay at the 24th Sofia International Film Festival in Bulgaria.
