‘The Little Plant’ vying at Greece’s Ierapetra fest

Iranian-South Korean documentary ‘The Little Plant’ has been vying at the International Documentary Festival of Ierapetra (IDFI) in Greece.

Made by Komeil Soheili, the 18-minute documentary narrates the story of a migration.

It shows a little plant looking for its parents where no other plants enjoy its company.

Being in a big castle full of immigrants from Yemen and other countries, it must try to adapt to the new situation as the other refugees do.

In the flick, a man says “I think it’s better if you go home, because no country is like home”.

When asked if he feels like home here, he responds, “No, it’s not my home here. I am from Yemen. You know? I’m far away, far away from my family and my country”.

Soheili is an acclaimed documentary filmmaker, lecturer, and producer.

His documentaries, mostly focused on social issues and the environment, have won some awards at different events.

He has also served as a jury member at the Busan Art Film Festival in South Korea.

Iranian documentary ‘Kiarostami and His Missing Cane’ is also competing at the IDFI.

According to the event’s official website, the IDFI “creates a unique arts experience with images and sounds from all over the world.”

The 7th edition of the festival is currently underway and will wrap up on August 10, 2020.
