‘Fault Line’ in the running at Rhode Island Int’l filmfest

‘Fault Line’ joins competition at Flickers’ Rhode Island Int’l Film Festival (RIIFF) in the US.

Iran’s short film ‘Fault Line’ has joined competition at the Flickers’ Rhode Island International Film Festival (RIIFF) in the US.

The 24th edition of the Rhode filmfest, which opened on Tuesday in the U.S. cities of Providence and Newport, is currently hosting ‘Fault Line’ by Soheil Amirsharifi.

‘Fault Line’ is about a schoolgirl called Nahal who breaks her arm in a fight at school. But, everything gets complicated for Nahal when a man comes to their school claiming that Nahal hit someone and had her arm broken while riding a motorbike and then fled the scene.

Some of the cast members of the short film are Baran Ahsaei, Khorshid Cheraqipour, Mahour Mirzanejad and Siamak Ehsaei.

Back in October 2019, ‘Fault Line’ won the best short film award at the 63rd edition of BFI London Film Festival where it was praised by the event’s president, Jacqui Davies who commented on the film, saying “This subtle and unusual film manages to do something profoundly transgressive — formally and politically — whilst concealing the very things that make it so subversive. We all were desperate to watch this film again and again.”

Previously, the flick competed at the 41st Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival in France, the 20th Izmir International Short Film Festival in Turkey as well as the 7th Ajyal Film Festival in Qatar.

Iranian short films ‘Gabriel’ by Yousef Kargar, ‘Coup 53’ by Taqi Amirani, Pouya Eshtehardi’s ‘Untimely’ and ‘Termites’ by Masoud Hatami are also representing Iran at the festival along with ‘Fault Line’.

In 2001, the RIIFF has been selected as a qualifying festival for Best Short Subject through the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

The event will be running until August 9, 2020.
