Iranian animation ‘Crab’ has competed at the Countryside Animafest Cyprus film festival.

The short title directed by Shiva Sadeq-Asadi, screened at the main competition section of the 19th edition of the event.

The 11-minute animation is in competition with films from France, Mexico, Germany, Belgium, the US and Russia.

The qualifying films for the international competition section will compete for a €1000 award.

‘Crab’, which has been produced by Iran’s Institute for Intellectual Development of Children and Young Adults, is about a reserved and isolated schoolboy who is a theater enthusiast.

Regardless of his emotional situation, he wishes to play a role in the theater group of his school.

But the only part offered to him is the role of a crab.

“Launched in 2002, Countryside Animafest Cyprus is the official Cyprus animation Festival. Its aim is to cultivate the art of animation, by raising audience awareness and promoting cultural, financial and social development in the field of independent animation filmmaking.” The official website of the event wrote.

Its various activities throughout the year include the annual Countryside Animafest Cyprus, expert seminars and workshops, academic forums, special screenings, etc.

In this way the festival initiates international collaborations and provides opportunities for artistic growth.

The 2020 edition of the event is currently underway from August 9-12.
