Iranian films grab 6 awards at Beirut festival

Iranian titles grab 6 awards at the Beirut Int’l Women Film Festival in Lebanon.

Iranian titles have grabbed six awards at the Beirut International Women Film Festival (BWFF) in Lebanon.

Pouya Badkoubeh's ‘Dressage’, which took part at the feature film competition section of the Lebanese festival, won the Best Film and Best Screenplay awards at the BWFF.

‘Dressage’ is about a group of teenagers who rob a shop for fun.

One of them, Golsa, hides the recording of the robbery, but her friends, and later her parents, demand her to give the video away, so it would not be found by the police.

Meanwhile, Yasser Talebi’s ‘Beloved’ from Iran was named the Best Documentary at the BWFF.

The documentary is about the difficult but favorable life of an 83-year-old mother who runs a unique life in northern Iran.

The BWFF’s Best Short Film award went to ‘Tattoo’ by Iranian director Farhad Delaram.

The 2020 BWFF granted the Best Screenplay award to Marjan Riahi from Iran, for her short film ‘Driving Lessons’.

Moreover, Iranian-Australian short film ‘Passage’ won the festival’s Best Cinematography award.

The BWFF tackles issues such as gender equality and domestic violence.

The annual event presents films about women and/or executed by women.

It aims to highlight the power of women in different life situations.
