Cinema Verite to pay tribute to late filmmaker Khosrow Sinaee

The 14th edition of the Cinema Verite, Iran's major documentary film festival, has scheduled to pay tribute to the late filmmaker Khosrow Sinaee.

Meeting the late filmmaker’s family on Saturday, a number of cinema officials and cineastes announced that the following edition of the Cinema Verite will hold a commemorating service for Sinaee.

The director of acclaimed doc ‘The Lost Requiem’, themed on polish citizens taking refuge in Iran during World War II, lost his battle against COVID-19 and died in Tehran on August 1, 2020.

In 2008, Poland awarded Sinaee the prestigious Knight's Cross of the Order of Merit for his 'The Lost Requiem'.

The documentary follows a group of Polish refugees hosted by Iran in 1942 as they are released from scattered camps in and around the former Soviet Union.

The group, mostly including women and young children, had come to Iran by boat and land.

Sinaee’s feature 'Bride of Fire' also won the Crystal Simorgh awards for best screenplay and Best Actor in a Supporting Role at the 18th Fajr International Film Festival in Iran.

Born in 1941, Sinaee went to Austria where he studied architecture, music composition, cinema and TV directing, as well as screenplay writing.

While he is mostly known for his films, Sinaee was also a skillful composer and accordion virtuoso who made the soundtracks for many of his films.

Organized by the Documentary and Experimental Film Center, the first edition of the Cinema Verite was held in 2007.

Over the past decade it has emerged as one of the important events on Iran's documentary calendar.

The 14th Cinema Verite may be held online due to the coronavirus outbreak in December 2020.
