Venice filmfest to host Iran’s ‘Careless Crime’

Iranian feature ‘Careless Crime’ has been picked to be screened at the Venice International Film Festival in Italy.

Directed by Shahram Mokri, the flick will be showcased at the Horizons section (Orizzonti) of the 77th edition of the Italian event.

The films in this section, which runs parallel to the main competition program of the fest, will also compete for Orizzonti awards.

‘Careless Crime’ narrates the story of some cinema spectators who are speaking about the film they are about to watch.

As soon as the film starts to play, they get the same fate as the characters’ in the film.

Four people burn down a cinema which is showing a film about an unexploded missile.

Babak Karimi, Siavash Cheraghipour, Fariba Kamran, Mohammad Sareban, Elaheh Bakhshi, Masoumeh Beigi, Amir Shamlou and Hamed Mahmoudi are among the cast members of the flick.

This year, the Italian fest will also play host to two other Iranian films, which are Majid Majidi’s ‘Sun Children’ (The Sun) and ‘Wasteland’ directed by Ahmad Bahrami.

Iranian films have been frequently finding screening slots at the fest.

For instance, in 2017, Vahid Jalilvand’s ‘No Date, No Signature’ won some top awards at the event.

He took home the best director award and Navid Mohammadzadeh, the star of the film, was honored with the best actor award.

Founded in 1932, the Venice International Film Festival is the oldest film event in the world and one of the “Big Three” fests alongside the festival of Cannes and the Berlin International Film Festival.

This year’s edition of the Venice event is slated for September 02- 12.
