Palestinian photojournalist wins top Arab media prize

Palestinian photographer Jaafar Ashtiyeh has received a top media prize for his coverage of the clashes in the occupied West Bank.

The AFP photojournalist won the prize for best photograph at the closing ceremony of the 16th Arab Journalism Award (AJA) in the UAE recently.

The annual Arab journalism awards ceremony featured his photograph of clashes between Palestinians and Israeli forces in the town of Kfar Qaddum, West Bank, on March 4, 2016.

The photograph shows a man huddled over a child to pick him up from the ground, as an Israeli soldier stands pointing his rifle in the background.

The AFP photographer also won an honorable mention at the National Press Photographers Association (NPPA) awards in the United States for another picture of the same incident.
