ifilm is currently airing the series ‘Leila's Loneliness’, a romance series that has raised controversy.

‘Leila's Loneliness’ raised controversy when it was premiered about five years ago, with some critics saying that the series is a remake of old Persian films, and that the love story between two people from different social class backgrounds which is depicted in the series is nothing new.

Directed by Mohammad-Hossein Latifi, the series is about Leila, a rich girl, who grew up in the US. She falls in love and gets married to a religious man, despite their ideological differences.

Other reviews, however, hailed how the series addressed love from the perspective of a religious and pious man, and how the girl has been influenced by him.

According to a synopsis for the film, Leila “finds peace in Mohammad’s austere and spiritual lifestyle and gets married to him. Leila faces many ordeals and hardships in her life, but her faith helps her to overcome them.”

Critics also praised how the director dramatized love and romance in a religious and indigenous atmosphere, filming the series in locations such as mosques, and featuring pleasant spaces.

According to reviews, flashbacks were well used in the series to narrate different stories without turning off audience.

‘Leila's Loneliness’ is starring Mina Sadati and Behrouz Shoeibi.

Those interested in exploring how the plot will unfold can watch the series on ifilm every day at 20:00 GMT.
