Iranian ‘White Whale’ to vie at Warsaw Film Festival

Iranian animation ‘White Whale’ is to compete at the 2020 Warsaw Film Festival in Poland.

Iranian animation ‘White Whale’ is selected to compete at the 36th edition of the Warsaw Film Festival (WFF) in Poland.

Directed by Amir Mehran, the eight-minute animation narrates the story of a war veteran who is trying to find the bodies of his soldier friends.

The man lost his fellow comrades during the war. Even though years have passed since the war ended, he is still searching for the location where he believes they were lost.

The short animated piece is a joint production between the director and Iran-based Documentary and Experimental Film Center (DEFC)

The crew includes character designer Abolfazl Boroumandi, set designer Naeem Azad, animator Jalal Naimi and storyboard creator Ammar Ghanbarzadeh.

‘6.5 per Meter’ by Saeed Roustaee and ‘A Hairy Tale’ by Homayoun Ghanizadeh were among the attendees of the last edition of the Warsaw fest that brought Ghanizadeh the festival's jury award.

Established in 1985, the WFF brings together films that help the audience to discover American independent cinema as well as Asian, Latin American, Iranian, Russian, and Romanian cinema.

The festival is set for October 9-18, 2020.
