First snowball fight on big screen colorized

A black-and-white film made in 1896 by the Lumiere brothers has been brought back to life in full color.

The footage was originally filmed by the famous Lumière brothers, Auguste and Louis, who gave birth to the big screen thanks to the Cinématographe.

The black-and-white clip capturing a group of men and women having a snowball fight was colorized by Joaquim Campa, 42, from Barcelona.  It was also speed-adjusted by a YouTube channel before Campa's final work on the film. 

In the film which was among the first movies ever created, people pick up snow from the city streets and throw snowballs at each other.

The creator of the reboot for Bataille de boules de neige, also known as 'Snowballing' in English, said, "I decided to do because I love history and technology."

In 1895, the Lumiere brothers held one of the first public film screenings. Despite their success, the brothers failed to predict  that the film industry would be long-lasting and were once quoted as saying: 'The cinema is an invention without any future.'
