‘Fish & Cat’ (2013) is an Iranian mystery slasher movie.
The film, a without-a-cut single shot, is inspired by the true story of a restaurant that served human flesh in northern Iran in the late 90s.
It tells the story of some students who travel to the Caspian region in order to participate in a kite-flying event during the winter solstice.
Next to their camp is a small hut occupied by three cooks who work at a nearby restaurant.
The film was premiered at the 2013 Venice Film Festival in Italy, where it won the Venice Horizons Award - Special Prize.
‘Fish & Cat’ also received FIPRESCI prize and Youth Jury award at the 2014 Fribourg International Film Festival in Switzerland and was one of the ten shortlisted Iranian films for submission to the Best International Feature Film at the 88th Academy Awards.
Special Jury Prize at the 2013 Dubai International Film Festival, Best Film award at the 13th Lisbon International Film Festival, and Best Film award at the 13th Istanbul Independent Film Festival are also among the honors achieved by Mokri’s slasher.
Babak Karimi, Saeed Ebrahimifar, Siavash Cheraghipour, Abed Abest, Pedram Sharifi, Neda Jebraeeli, Mona Ahmadi, Khosrow Shahraz, and Shadi Karamroudi are on the cast list of the film.
