The Sheffield Short Film Festival in the UK nominates Iran’s ‘Slaughter’.

The Sheffield Short Film Festival (SSFF) in the UK has nominated Iran’s ‘Slaughter’.

Co-directed by Ako Zand-Karimi and Saman Hosseinpour, the 13-minute flick is nominated for the Best International Film award at the 2020 edition of the British event.

The flick narrates the story of a family that has to sell its only cow to live through a tough winter.

The family’s son, however, is not happy with the deal, so he lets the cow escape.

The film has so far attended a number of global events, including the Early Bird International Student Film Festival in Bulgaria, the Third Eye Asian Film Festival in India, the Threadbare Mitten Film Festival in the US, and the Mareta Film Festival in Italy, where it won the Best Short Film Award.

It won the Jury Prize at the Rural Short Film Competition (Mostremp) in Spain as well as the best screenplay award at the Parma Music Film Festival in Italy.

‘Slaughter’ was also announced as the Audience Choice at the Fredonia Film Festival in the US and fetched Fereydoun Hamedi the Best Actor award at the International University Festival Cine-Literature of Agadir in Morocco.

The short film was also named the Best Fiction Film at "The Unprecedented Cinema" of the International Festival of Short Film in Estonia, won Best Short Film award at the International Independent Film Festival - Publicystyka in Poland, and received Best Cinematography award at the Asian Cinematography Awards in the Philippines.

Aimed to celebrate new and established filmmakers from around the globe and share the magic of cinematic storytelling through the time-honored format of short film, the “Sheffield Short Film Festival is run by Sheffield filmmakers and is following in the Steel City’s long history and tradition of celebrating cinema. By bringing international short films to the amazing and diverse audiences of Sheffield,” the SSFF’s website writes.

Following the postponement of the original festival dates due to the coronavirus pandemic, the 2020 edition of the SSFF will be held on October 30–November 1.
