Hossein Golegolab’s song ‘O Iran’ has been registered on the National Intangible Cultural Heritage list, an official says.
The song was the national anthem in the early years after the victory of the 1979 Islamic revolution, Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts Organization director, Zahra Ahmadipour, announced on Monday.
Hossein Golegolab composed the lyrics for the epic song in 1944 and Ruhollah Khaleqi put it to music afterward.
Later, the legendary vocalist, Gholam-Hossein Banan, first performed the song with accompaniment by a military band.
The performance was warmly received by officials and military figures at the time, and as a result, the then culture minister called on the ensemble to record the song for Iran’s national radio.
