Iran’s ‘Mandatory’ to vie at Visioni Corte filmfest in Italy

The Visioni Corte Film Festival in Italy is to screen Iran’s ‘Mandatory’.

The 2020 Visioni Corte Film Festival in Italy has been set to screen Iranian short flick ‘Mandatory’.

Written and directed by Mohammad-Javad Khorsha, the 15-minute film will compete at the Germogli Di Cinema section of the Italian event.

‘Mandatory’ is about a firing squad soldier who has been caught in a dilemma.

The young man has doubts about performing the execution of a prisoner after seeing the man with his family.

His uncertainty is not well-received by his commander who is on the verge of retirement.

Soheil Karamyar, Soheil Qannadan, Armin Boshrouyeh, and Fatemeh Radmanesh are among the cast members of the flick.

Khorsha won Best Director award for his short flick at the Burien Film Festival in the US.

Most recently, the film received an honorable mention at the Narrative Short section of the 12th Charlotte Film Festival in the US.

Besides, the film has gone on screen at a number of global events, including the ifva Awards in China and the Vancouver Island Short Film Festival in Canada, where it won the Best Screenplay and the Best Film awards.

The official website of the Ojai Film Festival describes ‘Mandatory’ as “anchored by superb production values and compelling performances … this short film explores the competing claims of duty, compassion and personal responsibility that inform the executioner’s moral dilemma”.

Launched in 2012, the Visioni Corte International Short Film Festival is a film contest in the beautiful Gulf of Gaeta in Italy. The movies are shown in the historical Ariston Theatre.

Created by movie lovers and aimed at all the authors and filmmakers of independent short films that do not work for large film distribution companies, its main goal is to spread the talent of so many filmmakers who are passionate about the film world, embracing different fields to allow the freedom of interpretation and creativity on the part of emerging authors.

The 2020 edition of the Visioni Corte will be held on November 26-December 5.
