Bulgarian fest awards Iranian ‘Angels Do Not Die’

The Early Bird International Student Film Festival in Bulgaria has awarded Iranian short flick ‘Angels Do Not Die’.

The 9-minute Iranian film, written, produced, and directed by Alireza Biglari, won the award for best short film at the Bulgarian event.

Addressing the awarding ceremony of the event online, Biglari dedicated the film to the first Iranian nurse, Narjes Khanalizadeh, who sacrificed her life to save others’ during the first weeks of the coronavirus pandemic in Iran.

He also dedicated his work to all hospital staffs that help saving human lives around the world.

‘Angels Do Not Die’, an attempt to appreciate the sacrifices of the medical staff and the healthcare workers, tells the story of a doctor who has contracted the coronavirus while helping those infected with the disease.

He goes home, but his soul is upset and depressed by what he has seen during the time in the hospital and the ICU.

However, eventually hope is revives with the encouragement of the world.

The short film was screened at the I Will Tell International Film Festival in the UK, the Early Bird International Student Film Festival in Bulgaria, and the Berlin Flash Film Festival in Germany, where it won an award.

The Early Bird International Student Film Festival is “the biggest Bulgarian forum dedicated to support the creation of student short films,” the festival’s website reads.

“It is the only festival fully devoted to help young filmmakers to reach their audience,” it adds.

The 16th Early Bird International Student Film Festival took place in the Bulgarian city of Sofia on November 1-5, 2020.

The previous edition of the event presented its Best Animation award to Iran’s ‘Tangle’.
