‘American Bull’ wins at Italian Sguardi Altrove

Iranian’s ‘American Bull’ wins award at Sguardi Altrove film festival in Italy.

Acclaimed Iranian short film ‘American Bull’ has been awarded at the Sguardi Altrove international women’s film festival in Italy.

Fatemeh Tousi’s 14-minute short is picked as the recipient of the best short film award at the Talent Under 35 Award of the Italian fest’s 27th edition.

‘American Bull’ is the story of a young boy who owns a bull and has a special bond with his animal.

The boy depends on his bull for earning a living. In fact, the bull is being rented for mating and procreation.

The film has already taken part in a number of global events and earned some wards, including the best film award at the Dhaka Int’l Youth Film Festival in Bangladesh and the best narrative short award at the Alrington Int’l Film Festival in the US.

The Sguardi Altrove aims to “encourage a reflection on topics relevant to women, articulated in their specific cultural, political and social context, by promoting in particular the circulation of films that are less likely to have access to commercial venues,” according to an online film submission platform.

This year’s edition of the event was originally slated to be held in March; however, it took place online on October 23-31.
