Romanian Animest hosting Iranian ‘Crab’

Iranian ‘Crab’ is screening at Animest Int’l Animation filmfest in Romania.

Iranian short animation ‘Crab’ is being screened at the Animest International Animation Film Festival in Romania.

The 11-minute flick, directed by Shiva Sadeq-Asadi, is among the competition titles at the short film section of the Romanian fest’s 15th edition.

‘Crab’, which has been produced by Iran’s Institute for Intellectual Development of Children and Young Adults, is about a reserved and isolated schoolboy who is a theater enthusiast.

Regardless of his emotional situation, he wishes to play a role in the theater group of his school. But, the only part offered to him is the role of a crab.

The film has already taken part in a number of global events, including the Ottawa Int’l Animation Fest in Canada, the Countryside Animafest Cyprus film festival and the Shanghai Int’l filmfest in China.

As a filmmaker, Sadeq-Asadi has already made a name for her award-winning short ‘Manned & Macho’ which has been showcased and awarded at various global film events in Russia, South Korea, Italy, Australia, the US and Ukraine.

The Animest International Animation Film Festival is the only festival in Romania dedicated to animated films. Founded in 2006, it gathers films from all over the world, in six competitive categories both for short and feature films, according to the event’s website.

The Animest is an Oscar-qualifying festival. The recipient of the Animest Trophy is eligible for consideration in the Animated Short Film category of the Academy Awards.

The 145th Animest, which is an online event, kicked off on November 9 and it is scheduled to end on November 15.
