Press TV anchor Marzieh Hashemi talks about Resistance cinema

Press TV anchor Marzieh Hashemi says the RIFF gathers currents of resistance together.

The documentarian and Press TV anchor Marzieh Hashemi has pointed out the Resistance International Film Festival (RIFF) can gather the currents of resistance in the world together.

The anchor also noted that the participation of more than 130 countries in the events signifies that the event is quickly spreading around the world.

She said the outcome in the world of resistance today is a movement that was formed about 42 years ago with the Islamic Revolution in Iran, and today the people of the world are progressively becoming familiar with its meanings.

Hashemi stated the resistance to oppression and imperialism in the region and even in Latin America is defined as resistance, adding Iran has always been a leader in the field of resistance.

She said resistance cinema should represent the problems of the people of the world in the face of oppression and expose the realities of the oppression of the West and the US so that even people in such countries become more familiar with the oppression by their rulers.

“In these countries, actions such as the invasions of Iraq and Yemen are portrayed as if their soldiers were fighting to defend the people; in this situation, the cinema of resistance must enter and portray these attacks from the perspective of the people of the countries of the region, in order to clarify the depth of the oppression of the Western countries for their own people,” she also noted.

The Press TV anchor said the cinema of resistance must show the silence of the West in the face of oppression and lies in the fight against Daesh and the terrorists they have created so that the true picture of their crimes can be revealed to all the people around the world.

Hashemi added that short films have many capacities and can inform the audience in the field of resistance in a prompt format; thus, the resistance movement needs to be seriously activated in this section too.

Slated for November 21-27 to celebrate the Basij Week, the second part of the RIFF is underway now.

The second part includes Main Competition section, Resistance Prominent Martyr - special section, Best Film Competition in Absolute Sense section, and Narrations of Pen - Scriptwriting Competition section.

The first part of the 16th RIFF, comprising Health Defenders and Festival of Festivals sections, was held during the Sacred Defense Week on September 21-27.

The RIFF, one of the most prestigious international film festivals in Iran, is dedicated to productions on wars and the repercussions of armed conflicts in the world.

It also puts a spotlight on the resistance of the Palestinian people against the Zionist regime and Daesh and their terrorist attacks in the region, as well as the world’s tyrants and their backing of Daesh.
