Iran "City of Thousand Figures" in photos

Iran’s Sanandaj is known as the City of Statues or the City of a Thousand Figures as it is filled with statues made to honor prominent figures.

Iran’s western city of Sanandaj is known as the City of Statues or the City of a Thousand Figures as it is filled with statues made to honor prominent figures.

Many statues and busts of writers, athletes and other prominent Iranian figures are installed in squares, parks and other special places across Sanandaj.

The memorials are made by significant sculptors from Sanandaj in Kordestan Province.

The statues include one paying homage to Ali Sayyad-Shirazi, a former commander of the Iranian Army’s Ground Forces during Iraq’s 1980-88 war against Iran, who was assassinated by the Mujahedin-e Khalq Organization (MKO) terrorists in 1999.

The memorials also include a statue of the first Iranian female historian, Mastoureh Ardalan, as well as that of a mountain climber.
