Iranian short film ‘Burned’ wins in Romania

The 2020 CINEMAIUBIT Int’l Student Film Festival in Romania awards Iranian ‘Burned’.

Iranian short film ‘Burned’ (Branded) has garnered the Jury Special Mention at the 24th edition of the CINEMAIUBIT International Student Film Festival in Romania.

The jury’s comment on the short film reads, “The jury would like to distinguish with a Special Mention the film BURNED by Fatemeh Mohamadi for immersing us completely in her narrative by building scenes and characters of great authenticity, for developing a sensitive theme with precise staging of the details and the action in the background and for masterfully guiding the viewer to a powerful and memorable end."

Iranian filmmaker Fateme Mohammadi’s short flick narrates the story of a man called Hafiz who decides to cross the Afghan border to save a young woman and his young daughter.

The flick is an Iranian Youth Cinema Society production written by Amir Roueeni.

The cast list includes Atefeh Amini, Mojtaba Bitarafan, Zeinab Tajik, Qasem Alizadeh, Akbar Akbarzadeh, Nabi Mousavi, Javad Borhani, Mohammad-Reza Rajabzadeh, Darya Tajik, and Qasem Karimi.

The short film has previously been screened at the 15th edition of the Jogja-NETPAC Asian Film Festival in Indonesia and the 32nd Girona Film Festival in Spain.

The CineMAiubit International Student Film Festival aims to promote students, works, debate, and consolidate the links between film schools.

The event was held on December 15-19, 2020.
