‘Malakout’ receives award at Primo Piano Film Festival

Farnoush Abedi’s ‘Malakout’ wins an award at the 2020 Primo Piano Film Festival in Italy.

Farnoush Abedi’s horror animated film ‘Malakout’ (Divinity) has succeeded to win an award at the 2020 Primo Piano Film Festival (Premio Fausto Rossano) in Italy.

‘Malakout’, which recently won two awards at the 2020 Dead of Night Film Festival in Liverpool, bagged its newest award for best animation at the 6th edition of the Italian fest.

Abedi’s 11-minute animation tells the story of a pianist who has lost one of his hands and cannot play the piano anymore. Doctors decide to transplant a dead criminal’s hand to his body. The pianist with his new hand starts killing people.

Produced at Iran’s Documentary and Experimental Film Center, ‘Malakout’ recently won the Bronze Jury Award-Best Short Film at the 2020 Celluloid Screams: Sheffield Horror Film Festival in the UK and Best Animated award at the 18th HorrorFest International film festival in the US.

The special awards of the 6th Wolves Independent International Film Festival (WIIFF) in Lithuania as well as the 18th biennial Hiroshima International Animation Festival in Japan are also among the latest accolades bagged by ‘Malakout’.

The animation is also the recipient of an honorary diploma at the Silk Road Int’l Film Festival in Ireland, the best animation award at the Black Country Horror Shorts Film Festival 2020 in the UK, two awards at the Florida Animation Festival of the US and best short film awards from the 2020 DaVinci Int’l Film Festival (DIFF) in the US and the 14th Cryptshow Festival in Spain.

The Fausto Rossano Award was created with the aim of remembering the figure and work of the Jungian psychiatrist and psychoanalyst Fausto Rossano, who passed away in 2012.
